 Sorry its been a while!

Rather a lot has been happening.

The BE, or towing test< was abolished and destroyed an industry of professional trainers.  It was a shame.

I ahve continued to offer help with towing, and The Towing Experience was born.

Many people think they can tow, and now with no test involved, can pass their driving test on a Monday and on Tuesday be driving a Toyota Land Cruiser with teh huge twin axle trailer on the back through the Devon lanes.

An interesting concept.

So what is the Towing Experience all about.

I help you, or someone that you know tow safely and still make progress down the road.

Help is offered in:

Helping you to know if you are fit to drive.

Makeing sure the whole unit is good to go.

Helping to ensure the trailer is loaded correctly and does not exceed any weights that you should know about, including nose weight and axle weights and the lovely 80:20 rule.

Make light of the dark art of reversing.  You know, that amazing sport that all the campers who are already on site love to watch as someone struggles to get their trailer where they want it.  Its not really that bad!

A road run with a variety of different roads and traffic conditions, national speed limits, do you know what theyb are, and country lanes, also with national preed limits!!!

And all in your car and trailer, maybe a caravan, car trailer, glider trailer, horse trailer, trailer tent, there are many different trialers to choose from.

That keeps me a bit busy and you will find more information by looking for I Want to Tow on Facebook.

Dorset Car Club, also on Facebook is going great and we are attending, as a group, many sows and rallys.  Lots of great friends, great cars, hot food and cold beer.  Its a touugh life but someone has to do it!

Wings and Wheels at Henstridge continues to go from strenth to strength with a mighty fine display of calssic cars and classic aircraft, with a number of greta trade stalls and some great food making it a great day out.  Se the website and find Wings and Wheels Henstridge on Facebook as well.

Wings and Wheels 2014

Wings and Wheels will be staged this year at Henstridge Airfield, just between Sherborne and Shaftesbury on the Dorset / Somerset border.  It will be held on Saturday 23rd August 2014 and the gates open to the public at 10am.  the cost is £5 per person and under 16s are free when accompanied by a paying adult.  Please note this is a live airfield and so NO dogs are allowed.  There is limited disabled parking.

This year we will be welcoming the Battle of Britain Memorial Flights Lancaster, Hurricane and Spitfire, plus the Canadian Lancaster, VERA!

Provided the weather holds, we should have an amazing display of vintage and classic aircraft in the air park, and at lunchtime you will be able to walk around the aircraft and talk with the pilots!

We also have a huge number of classic cars and military vehicles booked into the show this year!

On a good day we can have over 100 aircraft to be looked at, and the arrivals and departures are a sight to be seen.

Along with a nice variety of trade stalls and great food options, this really is a fine event for the whole family!

Henstridge Wings and Wheels, 27 August 2011

The alarm went off at 4.30am! Its was still dark outside.  Stumbled down the stairs and off in the Jeep, fully loaded with signs, waterproofs, hammers, banners and water.  Collected Jim and Tony from Southbourne and then met up with Paul and Caroline at Badbury Rings.  Cruised up to henstridge together and arrived at the gate at about 6.50!

Got the main entrance gate set up, with new signage, crash tape and traffic cones.

Banners and warning notices all up. Classic car display area set up, grass runway markers all hammered in to place .... now the so-called waterproof HiTec boots were sodden through!

Time now for a bacon butty and coffee, well almost ....... first classic cars are arriving, with general public, a couple of air movements ..... traders start to arrive, pass holders try running the gate!

Classic car park starts to fill up, Air Cadets arrive and take control of the public car park.  More classic cars, and disabled drivers.

Christchurch Cruisers motorcycle club arrives.

At just after 10am the Yakovlevs, based at Henstridge depart for a display in Cleathorpes .....

By 11.30 disabled area is full, and still more to come in.

A very nice Bell helicoper arrives and is the centre of attention for the aircraft enthusiast ....

Henstridge BBQ is ready to go at 12.30.  Get staff food sorted,  and delivered to the gates.

Air Park closure at 1pm, where is my lunch?

Battle of Britain Memorial Flight arrives from the East at 13.35, spot on time!  All three aircraft this year, Lancaster, Hurrican and Spitfire ...

Still wondering where my lunch is?

Airpark cleared and aircraft depart, and find my lunch, a little cold now, but still good.

All too soon the day ends, a scattering of heavy showers, an abundance of fine motors, some great aircraft and a great team to work with.

Next years date is provisionally booked for Saturday 25th August 2011.  See you there

Wings and Wheels Henstridge, August 2010

The weather broke just in time for the 11th staging of this great show. Over 200 classic cars and 65 aircraft arrived for the day.

One of the objectives of the event is to raise awareness and a bit of money for the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance based at the airfield.

The special visitor this year was the Battle of Britain's Lancaster.

The sun shone but the wind was marginal for many of our regular visitors, gusts upto 20kts across the main runway.

But what did arrive look wonderful and the visitors to the show had the opportunity to get real close to the aircraft, during the No Fly Time. Will flew his F15, and as a top radio controlled display pilot, gave a supurb display with his model aircraft flying at over 150mph (real speed) across the sky.

All too soon it came time to close the show, but memories will last until next years Wings and Wheels at Henstridge.

See you next year!
